Harkers York
Housed in the corner of St Helens Square, Harkers York is an impressive Georgian building previously occupied by the Yorkshire Insurance Company. It is one of a few Nicholson's chain pubs, along with the Punch Bowl on Stonegate and the White swan on Goodramgate, which pride themselves on giving a wide range of real ales and good pub grub.
Harkers does have a more up class atmosphere compared to the surrounding pubs, with its high ceiling and pillars and does have its own unique ambience. Although compared to the other Nicholson pubs, doesn’t have quite the range of real ales compared to the others however the ales are kept well.
Where the building is now was once where the historic Roman Praetorian Gate stood which was the main entrance to the city and part of the structure was revealed in the basement.
Harkers also has a fine range of pub grub. Here is a link to their current menu.
