The Three Legged Mare York
The Three Legged Mare (or more affectionately know to the locals as the Wonky Donkey) is a popular York Brewery real ale pub, just a small stroll from the Minster. It is named after Tyburn gallows which comprised of three vertical beams with horizontal beams connecting the vertical pillars where rope would be attached to hang the guilty (nice huh! ), if fact there is a replica of such a device in the beer garden towards the back.
The pub itself is a busy city centre pub, with a traditional yet modern feel to the interior. Not quite to my liking but not really against it either. The bar staff are always friendly and accommodating, and it very popular for drinks before the theatre around the corner.
Food and Drink
As with all the York Brewery pubs, the real ale is always on form, with upto nine ales on at any one time. Unique to the Three Legged Mare, is the 'Wonkey Donkey', which is a delightful tipple. Light lunches are available between 12 adn 3pm with Tapas available from 6pm till 9pm.
The pub operates a strict no jukebox, no under 18's and no fruit machines policies although usually they have a live act on a Sunday evening to keep you entertained
